Big tech companies are out of control, and seem to be getting worse. Despite record profits and valuations, they continue to make anti-consumer decisions to maximise their bottom line at the expense of their customers and employees.
Fortunately, I think the backlash is coming. This week the ACCC began proceedings against Microsoft for making it appear that they had to pay more to continue their M365 subscription when the company bumped up the price to add its crappy CoPilot features earlier this year.
If the federal court agrees with the ACCC, Microsoft could be up for as much as $50 million, given the scale of its deceit against an estimated 2.7 million Aussie consumers.
We have to wait and see what happens, but I hope they get the book thrown at them. Sure, 50 million Aussie dollars may not be a lot for a company that just reported US$77 billion in revenue for its first quarter, but it's the message that's important.
Did you upgrade your M365 account to CoPilot because you thought it was the only option? Let me know about it in the comments below!
In other news this week, I've been a bit under the pump with work that pays me, so I'm well behind on my review schedule. BTTR is reader-funded, so if you can, consider a paid subscription or throwing a few bucks in the Tip Jar.
Until next week
