The IP69-rated OPPO A5 Pro 5G costs just $399

The OPPO A5 Pro 5G's biggest selling points are about its battery and its water resistance. I'm scared to combine the two.

You don't see a lot of IP69-rated smartphones at all, let alone in the sub-$400 price bracket. OPPO seems to be leaning hard into the IP69 rating with its recent Reno13 5G also offering the more comprehensive water resistance standard.

But the new OPPO A5 Pro 5G brings that water resistance to a much lower price bracket, with the phone selling for just $399 in Australia.

It's not just the water resistance either. The A5 Pro 5G has a huge 5,800 mAh battery, as well as support for OPPO's 45W SUPERVOOC fast charging.

"Our research shows that nearly a quarter of Australians (24%) plan to spend under $500 on their next smartphone. As our first A Series release of 2025, the OPPO A5 Pro 5G is a game-changer in this space, raising the bar for affordable smartphones with premium durability, performance, and design.”

The phone itself comes in two colours, which have slightly different dimensions. The Mocha Brown version measures in at just 7.76 mm thick and weighs 194 grams, while the Olive Green colour is slightly thicker at 7.86 mm and wighing 196 grams.

Both versions are powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chipset, alongside 8GB RAM and 256 GB of on board storage.

The a5 Pro 5G's display offers 1604 x 720 pixels, with up to 1,000 nits brightness and 16.7 million colours. You can easily control the phone while it's wet, or if you're wearing gloves, apparently.

The phone’s camera system features a 50MP Ultra-Clear Main Camera, a 2MP Portrait Camera, and an 8MP Front Camera. You get software-driven portrait modes and AI portrait retouching software as well.

That IP69 rating also comes in helpful with the phone offering a dedicated mode for underwater photography. I'd still be a bit worried about fully dunking my smartphone, but OPPO sounds confident its handset can handle getting wet.

On the battery front, the A5 Pro 5G has a massive 5,800mAh battery with a four year lifespan, plus 45W SUPERVOOC fast charging.
