When I reviewed the Blink Outdoor 4 and Blink Mini 2 home security cameras shortly after they launched in Australia, it was the long-lasting Outdoor 4 that impressed me more.
So when the company updated the Mini but not the Outdoor to 2K resolution last year, I was surprised we hadn't seen an update to the more robust wireless model.
Well, now we have. The Outdoor 2K+ brings the upgraded resolution in a solid IP65 rated design.
The move to 2K resolution (2560 x 1440 pixels) is a meaningful upgrade over the 1080p standard found on the previous Blink Outdoor 4. This extra pixel density allows for 4x digital zoom, making it easier to identify faces or number plates that might otherwise appear blurry.
Low-light performance has also seen a boost. While many budget cameras immediately flick to grainy black-and-white infrared, the Outdoor 2K+ is designed to maintain colour video longer in low-light conditions.
Intelligence and efficiency
Under the hood, the camera uses Blinkβs custom silicon to manage power consumption. Despite the jump in resolution, it still promises up to two years of battery life on just two AA lithium batteries, provided you aren't trigger-happy with the live view.
The camera includes person and vehicle detection, though these "smart" features are locked behind a Blink Subscription Plan.
For those who prefer to keep their data local and avoid monthly fees, the camera can also save clips to a USB drive via the included Sync Module.
The design remains weather-resistant with an IP65 rating, meaning it is dust-tight and protected against rain and typical Australian storms. While it's built for the backyard, the compact size makes it just as viable as an indoor option if you want to skip the cables.
