Epson has a New 4K flagship short throw projector to kill the TV

As much as I appreciate my 10 year old TV's consistency, 65 inches just doesn't cut it in the size department any more. But maybe instead of heading for a larger TV, I should actually think about a short throw projector.

Epson has got a new model arriving in Australia, and it look pretty impressive.

The new EH-LS970B sits at the top of Epson’s range, designed to replace traditional TVs with a massive 150-inch image while sitting just 28 cm from the wall.

It uses 3LCD technology to deliver 4,000 lumens of brightness. This means you don't need a perfectly blacked-out room to get a clear, punchy picture during the day.

Smarter pixels and AI processing

While many projectors "upscale" to 4K, the EH-LS970B uses advanced pixel-shifting to hit a full 8.3 million pixels.

New for this year is a suite of AI-powered enhancements. Super Resolution sharpens fine textures, while an "AI perceptual quantiser" manages contrast to ensure skin tones look natural rather than digital.

"EH‑LS970 raises the bar for shared cinematic experiences at home," said Kiran Sanghera, Epson Europe. "You get real 4K detail, 4,000 lumens brightness and Bose‑engineered sound in a system that's easy to live with."

Built for living rooms and gaming

Epson has integrated Google TV directly into the unit, meaning you can ditch the Chromecast and stream Netflix and Disney+ natively.

Audio is handled by a built-in 2.1-channel Bose system. For those worried about setup, the Epson Setting Assistant app uses your phone’s camera to automatically square up the image and fix any distortion in seconds.

Gamers are also looked after with a dedicated 1080p/120Hz port and input lag times under 20ms, which is snappy enough for competitive play on a massive scale.
