Google's annual budget Pixel refresh is here, with the Pixel 10a now available for pre-order, arriving in store on 5 March for just $849.

The new handset moves away from the traditional "visor" look for a completely flat back where the camera bar blends seamlessly into the frame. It is also Google's most sustainable A-series yet, using recycled cobalt, copper, gold, and tungsten for the first time.

Under the hood, the Pixel 10a is powered by the same Tensor G4 chip found in last year's flagship Pixel 10. This gives users full access to Gemini, Google's personal AI assistant, for natural conversations and complex tasks.

The 6.3-inch Actua display is 11% brighter than the previous model, making it much easier to use in harsh Australian sunlight. It is protected by Gorilla Glass 7i, which offers better resistance against the accidental drops and scratches of daily life.

"Our Pixel A-series phones always offer all the essentials, plus features you’ll love," said Rory Charlston, Director of Devices and Services at Google Australia.

The camera system remains a highlight, featuring a 48MP main sensor and a 13MP ultrawide lens. For the first time, A-series users can access Google's AI "Add Me" feature to join group photos they’ve taken and "Auto Best Take" to ensure everyone is looking at the camera.

Google is promising seven years of OS and security updates. The phone also features an IP68 rating, meaning it can survive a brief dunk in water or a dusty day at the beach without issue.

Battery life is rated for over 30 hours, extending up to 120 hours when using Extreme Battery Saver mode. For those heading off the grid, the inclusion of Satellite SOS provides a way to contact emergency services even without mobile coverage.
