I am enamoured by the idea of colour e-ink, but despite the fact Kobo launched its first colour ebook readers a couple of years ago now, and Amazon's colour Kindle arrived last year, I still haven't had the chance to try one out.

Maybe this Autumn sale from Kobo is the opportunity I've been waiting for.

Kobo has announced a seasonal price drop for the Libra Colour, shaving $30 off the usual retail price. This limited-time offer is designed to encourage readers to migrate from traditional black-and-white displays to the more vibrant Kaleido 3 technology.

The Libra Colour serves as a middle ground in the current eReader market. It provides enough screen real estate for comfortable reading while remaining portable enough for a daily commute.

One of the primary benefits of this model is the ability to see book covers in their intended hues and use colour-coded highlighting. For those who use their devices for non-fiction or textbooks, this makes organising notes much more intuitive.

The device also supports the Kobo Stylus 2, allowing for handwritten margin notes and sketches. While the stylus is usually a separate investment, the base discount on the hardware makes the total package easier on the wallet.

Durability remains a focus for the brand, as the unit features full IPX8 waterproofing. This rating ensures the device can survive being submerged in two metres of fresh water for up to an hour, making it safe for poolside or bathtub reading.

The sale is currently live and is scheduled to run through the Easter period. It represents one of the first major price cuts for the Libra Colour since its Australian debut.

With Amazon recently entering the colour space with the Kindle Colorsoft, Kobo is clearly looking to maintain its strong foothold in the local market.

This price adjustment places the Libra Colour at a significant competitive advantage regarding value for money.
