I always thought that the idea of a smart wardrobe seemed a bit strange, until I actually tried one. I managed to go hands on with the Samsung AirDresser a couple of years ago, and was surprised by how effective it was.
LG's new "5 Garment TrueSteam Styler" promises to take the idea to the next level, with a built-in hand steamer that can help you quickly spruce up your clothes without needing to pull out the ironing board.
LG is launching the new Styler in two colour options: Mirror Black and Forest Green. Both models feature the same core technology, but the Mirror Black version includes the built-in HandySteamer, which is a first for the Australian market.
The HandySteamer is a high-pressure steam gun that lives inside the unit, ready for quick touch-ups on hanging garments. It's designed for those stubborn wrinkles that need attention before you head out the door.
Steam-powered clothing care
At its core, the Styler uses something LG calls "DUAL TrueSteam" technology to refresh and care for clothing.
Pure steam helps reduce wrinkles and allergen exposure, making it suitable for delicate fabrics like silk, wool, cashmere, and lace. This makes the Styler the kind of appliance you want for garments you'd rather not risk in a traditional washing machine, like tailored suits, wedding attire, or designer pieces.
The unit holds up to five garments plus one pair of pants, with an EZ Fit PantsPress feature built in. While that's not a huge capacity, it's enough for a week's worth of workwear or a few special occasion outfits.
Drying is handled by an Inverter HeatPump system, which avoids tumbling and direct heat. This gentler approach helps maintain fabric shape and extends garment life.
It's also useful for items you wouldn't normally put in a dryer, like your shoes, sweaters, or pillows. If you have young kids, it will also work on plush toys.
The AutoFresh System circulates air inside the unit and helps dehumidify the surrounding space, which should keep both your clothes and the room they're in smelling fresh.
Smart controls and easy installation
Control happens via a smart LCD touch display on the unit itself, or remotely through the LG ThinQ app. You can start cycles from your phone, download specialised programmes, and monitor energy usage.
One of the more practical aspects of the Styler is that it doesn't require plumbing, making it suitable for renters or anyone who doesn't want to commit to a permanent installation.
At 600mm wide and just under two metres tall, it's designed to fit in laundries, walk-in robes, or even studio apartments. That said, I know I don't have the space for one, so you'll need to make sure it fits your home before you hand over the credit card.
Pricing and availability
Both the Mirror Black (SC5MBH) and Forest Green (SC5FG) models are available now from LG.com/au and select retailers for $3,499.
That's a significant investment, but for people who spend a lot on their wardrobe or need to maintain delicate garments regularly, it could prove worthwhile.
