Motorola's Edge 60 Fusion sounds too good to be true

The edge 60 Fusion promises flagship features and specs in a phone that costs just $699, so what's the catch?

Last year's Edge 50 fa\mily of phones was a bit confusing. There was the Edge 50 Pro, the Edge 50 Fusion, the Edge 50 Neo and the Edge 50. Out of all of those, the Neo was my clear favourite, but this year the Fusion is looking promising.

As the first model to launch in Australia, I don't really have much to compare it to yet. The Edge 60 Fusion does boast a pretty impressive spec sheet, though, far beyond what I would actually expect for a phone at the $699 price point.

To start with, it has a 6.7-inch pOLED display, with a 1220p resolution and up to 4,500 nits of peak brightness, which is almost three times last year's models.

It's also more robust, featuring Gorilla Glass 7i for better scratch and drop protection, as well as meeting a range of dust and water resistance standards, like MIL-STG 810H, as well as IP68 and IP69 ratings.

The phone is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 chipset, with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. You can also add up to additional 12GB of RAM with the RAM Boost feature, and there's a microSD card slot that can add up to an extra 1TB.

The Edge 60 Fusion has a 5,200 mAh battery inside and supports 68W fast charging, which can reportedly give you a full day's worth of battery in just eight minutes.

The camera also gets a big boost this year. The main camera is powered by Sony LYTIA 700C sensor and features OIS video stabilisation, while a secondary 13MP Ultrawide lens offers both a 120º field of view for landscape shots as well as a dedicated macro mode.

Tying the whole phone together is an extension of Moto's partnership with Pantone. While the two companies have partnered for years in bringing iconic colours to the phone, this year both the screen and the cameras are certified by Pantone for their colour reproduction.

For those that are interested, Motorola has a bunch of AI features crammed in here too. To be completely honest with you here, I drifted off when they started talking about these features – regular readers will know that the constant push of "AI" bores me – so here's a quick list of what Moto is offering, in case you are interested:

  • Catch me up: concise, tailored summaries of your notifications
  • Remember this and Recall: Capture screenshots, photos, and notes that can be remembered by the AI later
  • Pay attention: Voice recorder with transcription
  • Next Move: Tailored suggestions based on what's on your screen
  • Playlist Studio: Use on screen content or a prompt to create a playlist
  • Image Studio: Create terrible AI images and stickers
“We are passionate about pushing the limits of what a smartphone can offer, the new motorola edge 60 fusion is a testament to this, marking an important step in bringing world-first and category-leading features to Australians. With enhanced moto ai features that are more intuitive and proactive than ever before, this phone integrates ai support smoothly to level up everyday experiences. Whether it's searching smarter, understanding your photos more deeply, or getting context-aware insights without lifting a finger, these advancements are designed to make everyday interactions more meaningful.”
