Samsung's Freestyle+ projector gets brighter and smarter with AI-powered setup

While TVs keep getting bigger, the original big-screen tech is getting smaller and more convenient. At CES, Samsung announced its latest projector, the Freestyle+.

The biggest upgrade here is brightness. Samsung says the Freestyle+ delivers 430 ISO lumens, which is nearly double what the previous generation could manage.

While it's still not going to replace a proper home theatre setup, it's still a welcome boost for casual viewing in bedrooms, living rooms, or even outdoors.

The other major addition is what Samsung's calling AI OptiScreen. Essentially, this is a collection of automated adjustments that handle the fiddly bits of projector setup.

The system includes "3D Auto Keystone", which corrects distortion even when you're projecting onto corners, curtains, or angled walls. There's also "Real-time Focus" that keeps things sharp as the projector moves, "Screen Fit" for matching compatible projector screens, and "Wall Calibration" that adjusts the picture based on whatever surface you're using.

If you've ever spent time manually tweaking keystone settings or trying to get a projector to focus properly on a less-than-ideal surface, these features sound genuinely useful. The pitch is simple: point, place, and start watching.

The Freestyle+ keeps the cylindrical design and 180-degree rotating stand from previous models, so you can still project onto walls, floors, or ceilings without needing extra mounting gear. The compact form factor means it's easy enough to move between rooms or pack for a trip.

For entertainment, there's built-in Samsung TV Plus and Gaming Hub access, so you don't need external devices to stream or play. The integrated 360-degree speaker handles audio, and if you've got a compatible Samsung soundbar, Q-Symphony lets them work together for better sound.

The projector will launch globally in the first half of the year, though Australian pricing and availability haven't been announced yet. We'll keep you posted when we learn more.
