Sony's over ear WH-1000 XM6 are one of the best pairs of headphones I've ever used. So it's probably a safe bet that the company's lates in-ear model, the WF-1000 XM6, is going to deliver the goods.

The new WF-1000XM6 earbuds arrive with a clear focus on silence, boasting a 25 per cent reduction in ambient noise compared to the previous XM5 model.

Sony says this improvement is driven by the new HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN3e and an upgraded array of four microphones on each bud. These updates specifically target mid-to-high frequency sounds, which are the typical distractions you find in busy cafes or during a commute.

We often see tech get more powerful at the cost of size, but Sony has managed to go the other way here. The WF-1000XM6 body is approximately 11 per cent slimmer than the predecessor.

The redesigned shape follows the natural curves of the inner ear, which should help reduce that "plugged-in" fatigue during long listening sessions.

Connectivity also gets a meaningful upgrade with an antenna that is 1.5 times larger than before. This should help maintain a stable signal in crowded areas where Bluetooth interference is common.

For those who use their buds for work, Sony has paired a bone conduction sensor with AI noise reduction to help isolate your voice from background chatter during calls.

A spokesperson for the company noted that the 1000X series is dedicated to "unlocking the full potential of every song" by working with world-renowned sound engineers to ensure music is heard exactly as the creator intended.

This includes support for 32-bit audio processing and a new driver unit designed to deliver deeper bass and clearer highs.

Smart features are also getting a boost through a deeper integration with Google Gemini. You can now use Gemini Live for fluid, hands-free conversations to manage your calendar or brainstorm ideas without touching your phone.

Finally, for those who prefer the over-ear experience, Sony is adding a new Sand Pink colourway to the existing WH-1000XM6 range.
