It's been a few months since Samsung announced that SmartThings would be the first platform to support Matter 1.5 cameras. It was a slightly underwhelming announcement because there weren't any Matter cameras to actually take advantage of the platform.
Aqara has changed that today, launching the Camera Hub G350 in Australia, becoming the first Matter-Certified camera in the country.
The G350 isn't just a security camera, though. It's a smart home hub in disguise.
It combines a Zigbee hub, Matter Controller, and Matter Bridge in a single device, which means Aqara accessories and third-party smart home gear can all connect and work together within one unified system.
On the camera side, there's a dual-lens setup: a 4K wide-angle lens for broad coverage, paired with a 2.5K telephoto for detail. Add 9x hybrid zoom and a pan-tilt mechanism that covers 360°, and you can monitor an entire room while still zooming in on fine detail.
AI tracking follows people and pets automatically, keeping them in frame. Detection happens on-device, so you get alerts for things that actually matter rather than every shadow or passing car.

Privacy by design
One of the more thoughtful touches on the G350 is the physical lens shield. When you turn the camera off, the lens rotates upward and is physically concealed, so there's no question about whether it's watching. That's a more convincing privacy guarantee than a software toggle.
Storage is flexible: local microSD up to 512GB, NAS backup, or end-to-end encrypted cloud storage through Aqara's HomeGuardian service.
Apple Home users also get HomeKit Secure Video, which processes footage on-device before sending encrypted thumbnails to iCloud.
The G350 works natively with Apple Home, Alexa, Google Home, and SmartThings. As a Matter 1.5 device, it connects to any of them without needing a separate bridge.
