Budget smartphone maker Aspera has announced its latest model, the Aspera R10, which offers a robust build for a few hundred bucks.

Just like the Aspera AS8, the R10 cuts down on the expenses by using a lower resolution screen and a more affordable processor. But it still has a pretty decent spec list.

There's a 6.5-inch display with a 1600 x 720 pixel resolution, dual (4G) SIM card slots, 4GB RAM and 128GB storage on board. It's powered by a 2Ghz Octa-core MediaTek processor, offers NFC for mobile payments and runs Android 13 out of the box.

The Aspera R10 comes with a rear 13MP camera and a front-facing 8MP camera. That's enough to use it for facial recognition to unlock your phone, though it's not going to be as secure as Apple's FaceID.

Of course, as a ruggedised phone, you expect a solid design. The phone is rated IP68 against dust and water, and comes with a rubberised outer body to help keep the device even safer in rough environments.

Pricing and availability

The Aspera Mobile R10 smartphone is available now for just $299 from Big W, Retravision, Betta Electrical, Mobileciti, selected IGAs and selected BP service stations.
