It comes as a bit of a surprise to learn that Oppo, the Chinese smartphone company, was only founded in 2004 and started out producing MP3 players.
Today, it is the largest Chinese smartphone manufacturer, and one of the world’s leading companies investing in research and development.
Until recently, Oppo is the third largest smartphone brand in Australia by market share, according to IDC. Considering it offers a huge range of models, deciding which model is right for your needs can be a bit of a challenge.
We’re here to help

These are the best Oppo phone models in Australia right now:
Best for build quality: OPPO A80 5G
What costs under $400 and can withstand being dropped from 1.4 metres onto marble? The OPPO A80 5G, that's what.
This smartphone won't blow you away with it's fancy specs or cameras, but it does offer a good balance of performance and price. It's cheap enough you can afford to drop it, but strong enough it shouldn't break.
The camera is pretty disappointing, and the AI editing functionality is terrible. But if you're after a budget handset that gets the job done, this is worth consideration.

Best for budget: OPPO A18

I don't care what you say, the fact you can get a smartphone that performs like this at an RRP of $219 is ridiculous.
You need to make a whole heap of sacrifices on the performance front to pay that little amount. The screen is pretty low resolution at 1612 × 720, but is bright enough to see in full sunlight.
Battery will get you through a full day easily, and the phone looks decent enough for the price.
The camera isn't great, and the processor performance can struggle with more complex tasks, but is good enough for basic usage.
But for the price... this is a great option for OPPO.

Best for value: Oppo A79 5G

I found it surprising that the OPPO A80 was released less than a year after the A79, but the A80's robust build quality is enough to differentiate it from its predecessor.
The A79 isn't as cheap as the A18, but it does offer better value. The cameras still aren't great, but the processor is faster, and even outperforms the A80 in benchmark tests.
The battery life, along with SUPERVOOC fast charging makes it worth considering.
Not to mention that it's over six months old now, so you can pick it up for as low as $269 if you shop around at the right time.

Best for battery: Oppo A98 5G

The OPPO A98 5G is a bit more expensive that the previous phones on this list, but that extra cost delivers much better performance.
There's a 2400 x 1800 6.72-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate, and while the Snapdragon 695 processor is a bit dated now, it's still good enough for most things you do on your phone.
The camera can't compare with more premium phones, but the photos are definitely good enough for your social media feed. There's also a unique "microscope camera", which is fun to play around with but is ultimately not something you'll ever really use.
The battery life is fantastic, as is the SUPERVOOC fast charging. Even when you do run out of battery, seven minutes on the charger will take you to 20% full.

How we chose the best OPPO phone in Australia
I've reviewed hundreds of phones over my career, and more than 30 since I launched BTTR. In that time I learned that review sites - including this one - are subjective by nature. Everybody has a different opinion of what is best.
So for this guide, I’ve recommended my top OPPO smartphone choices from the models I have tested.
As I continue to test more OPPO devices, I’ll update this guide to ensure it is regularly up to date.
What to look for when choosing the best OPPO phone in Australia

Whether you’re after one of the models listed above or something completely different, the decision factors you need to consider when buying a new Oppo phone is the same.
Do you want a flip phone

So if you’ve decided you want to buy an Oppo phone, the next question you should ask is whether you want a phone that folds. If it is, then the N2 Flip is the right phone for you. If not, you should consider the next steps.
Price
Whether you opt for a foldable phone or not, the next decision factor has to be price.
Once you know your budget, you can begin narrowing down the selections on the best Oppo phone for you.
Oppo has a range of models at all price points, so the next step will be important.
Features and functions
Oppo may have begun life as a low-cost alternative to the Apple ecosystem, but today they are a behemoth in the smartphone world.
Oppo has pushed the market forward with features like fast charging and in-screen fingerprint sensors.
