I want to use the DJI Osmo Nano everywhere

DJI's new Osmo Nano camera is ridiculous. It weighs just 52 grams and measures in at 57 × 29 × 28 mm, and can be mounted pretty much anywhere.

I'm barely getting started on my video-making journey for social media, but even I can think of countless opportunities to mount this tiny camera in unconventional places for some cool, unique footage.

DJI's announcement says "hats" and "pet collars", but I'm thinking "vacuum cleaners" and "easy top-down" views for unboxings.

The Osmo Nano packs a 1/1.3-inch sensor, which is genuinely impressive for something this small. It's the same size sensor as the Osmo Action 5 Pro that launched last year, while the GoPro Hero 13 Black has a 1/1.9-inch sensor, as a point of comparison. This sensor delivers 13.5 stops of dynamic range, which means you should get proper detail in both shadows and highlights of your footage, and the 143º field of view will make it great for action B-roll.

The 4K/60fps recording is pretty standard these days, but the 4K/120fps slow-motion capability will let you have some fun. If you're passionate about the post-production side of video, the fact that the Osmo Nano shoots 10-bit D-Log M, which will give you colour grading flexibility in the editing room.

The dual-sided magnetic mounting system is clever, removing the need for fiddly clips or adhesive mounts. You can slap this thing on any metal surface instantly and start recording.

The Multifunctional Vision Dock extends this concept. It's simultaneously a viewfinder, charging station, and remote control for the camera. It can charge the camera to 80% in just 20 minutes.

Speaking of battery life, the 200-minute battery life in 1080p mode is respectable, though the 60-minute limit for 4K recording means you'll probably want to pack a power bank for longer shoots. The camera is IPX4 rated for splashes, and offers pre-recording functionality as well.

Pricing and availability

The Osmo Nano starts at $529 for the 64GB model, which includes the camera, the Vision Dock, a magnetic hat clip, magnetic lanyard, protective case, USB cable and magnetic ball joint adapter mount.

For $589, you get the same stuff with a 128GB version of the camera.

There are also a range of optional accessories designed to extend the camera's versatility, including a magnetic headband, dual-direction quick-release foldable adapter mount, an ND filter set and a glass lens cover.
