After announcing it an IFA last year, Dyson has today launched its first vacuum and mop robot vacuum model, the Spot+Scrub AI in Australia.

I had the chance to watch and follow the Spot + Scrub at an event in Sydney last year, and I'm glad to see Dyson finally enter the fray with a competitive robovac.

Dyson has built the Spot + Scrub Ai to identify the surface it’s cleaning. Using a high-resolution camera and green laser-like illumination, the robot can spot nearly 200 types of household objects and stains.

Unlike traditional robots that might just smear a mess across the floor, this model can use AI to react in real-time. It is programmed to go over stubborn stains up to 15 times, checking its work with the onboard camera until the floor is clean.

Dyson has focused heavily on the hygiene of the mopping process. The system uses a 12-point hydration system to deliver fresh, heated water at 60ºC directly to a microfibre roller.

The roller cleans itself on every rotation, meaning the robot isn't just pushing dirty water around your living room. It also includes an extending mechanism that reaches 40mm into corners and skirting boards to ensure edges aren't missed.

On the vacuuming side, it remains a Dyson at heart. It uses 10 cyclones to separate dust and debris into a bagless bin, which can then be emptied hygienically at the dock.

"When it detects a stain, the robot performs up to 15 focused cleaning passes over the area, using its HD camera to monitor until the stain is fully removed," said Jake Dyson, Chief Engineer at Dyson.

The robot uses LiDAR scanning to map the home, which users can manage via the MyDyson app. This allows for specific zone cleaning or even spot cleaning where you can tell the robot exactly where a spill has occurred.

For those with pets or children, the software is designed to recognise and avoid common obstacles like socks, cables, and even pet waste.

The dock itself supports the machine for up to 100 days of debris storage before needing manual attention. Though from experience, you will not want to leave the dirty water tank that long.
