Over at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Honor unveiled its expanded AI device ecosystem with a suite of new products, including the "Robot Phone", which adds motorised components to your smartphone for... reasons.
While it's definitely an interesting concept, I don't see it really taking off. But it's worth taking a closer look at anyway.
The Robot Phone: A smartphone with "legs"
The Robot Phone is a bit of an oddity, designed to move and interact with its environment. It features a tiny, internal four-axis gimbal system that allows the camera, and the phone itself, to track you, nod, or even "dance" to music.
The motorised system provides a three-axis gimbal for 200MP video capture, aiming to provide professional-grade stability without an external accessory.
It uses sensors to identify sounds and track motion, effectively turning the phone into an autonomous cameraman.
As much as Honor is pitching it as a utility, I really feel this one is a bit too gimmicky to be practical. But I'm happy to be proven wrong!

Magic V6: Pushing the foldable limit
On the more practical side of the booth, the Magic V6 is the latest evolution of Honor's foldable range. It measures just 8.75mm when closed, making it one of the thinnest devices in its category, yet it still manages to pack a massive 6,660mAh battery. The Galaxy Z Fold7 is a full 8.9mm thick when closed.
Honor has achieved this by using its fifth-generation silicon-carbon battery technology, which allows for much higher energy density in a smaller physical footprint.
It also features an IP69 rating, meaning it is not only waterproof but can withstand high-pressure, high-temperature water jets.
Expanding the ecosystem
Beyond phones, the MagicPad 4 was shown off as an ultra-slim productivity tablet. At just 4.8mm thick, it features a 12.3-inch OLED display with a 165Hz refresh rate, powered by the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 silicon.
For those needing a traditional laptop, the MagicBook Pro 14 was also refreshed. It moves to Intel’s Core Ultra Series 3 processors and features a 14.6-inch OLED screen, focusing on battery life and cross-device collaboration with both Android and Apple ecosystems.
Honor CEO James Li suggests this is just the beginning of their shift toward "embodied" intelligence.
"We are exploring the new paradigm of AI devices with Alpha Phone; hosting the new paradigm of AI ecosystem with Alpha Store; and building the new paradigm of a silicon-carbon civilisation with Alpha Lab," Li said.
Pricing and availability
While Australian-specific pricing has not been locked in, the European launch suggests a premium positioning for the new flagship range.
