If, for some unknown reason, you were to find yourself in my roof above my lounge room, you would discover old speaker cables running across the ceiling from when I installed high-end speakers for my home theatre setup.
It's been a long time since they were used. I upgraded to a Sonos Beam, and while I would love to upgrade again, it wouldn't be for a cabled solution.
LG understands that the days of cabled home theatre are behind us, announcing at CES its latest suite of home theatre audio, including the first soundbar that supports Dolby Atmos FlexConnect.
The LG Sound Suite is built around the H7 soundbar. This speaker is the first product to use Dolby Atmos FlexConnect to simplify the installation process.
FlexConnect lets the speaker adapt to your room layout without needing to measure distances, run cables, or spend an afternoon trying to work out optimal speaker placement.
The best part of this new system is its modularity. You can pair the H7 with wireless M7 and M5 surround speakers and the W7 subwoofer in up to 27 different configurations.
Start with just the soundbar if that's all you need, or go all out with a full 13.1.7-channel setup. The components are designed to work with LG's premium TVs, but even if you don't use an LG panel, the H7 will work with any TV via HDMI.
LG is also bringing Dolby Atmos FlexConnect to its 2026 premium TV lineup and select 2025 models through a future software update, which should give existing LG TV owners something to look forward to.
The H7 is powered by LG's Ξ± (Alpha) 11 AI Processor Gen 3, which is the same chip that's in their flagship OLED TVs like the G5 OLED evo. It uses AI Sound Pro+ to upscale stereo audio into multi-channel virtual surround sound and applies AI-powered object separation to balance voices, music, and sound effects. The system also adjusts audio based on what you're watching.
There are a few other unique features LG has snuck in here as well. Like "Sound Follow", which uses the ThinQ app and ultra-wideband technology to shift the audio sweet spot of the room based on where you're sitting. Room Calibration Pro, meanwhile, analyses your room's acoustics and applies AI processing to optimise the sound.
Every component in the Sound Suite features Peerless speaker units, which is a nice touch considering Peerless has been making premium speakers for over a century.
Australian pricing and availability haven't been announced yet, but as someone who has spent hours trying to optimise the position of speakers for the perfect surround sound setup, I am very intrigued to see how well this works.
