Home security companies have been adding AI to their products over the past couple of years, but most are cloud-based solutions that require a premium subscription to access.
At CES this year, Reolink announced its new AI Box, a hub for its home security cameras that offers local processing of data captured by its cameras.
Powered by Qualcomm's Dragonwing Q8 Series chip, the AI Box handles detection, analysis, and search of your home security footage locally, without sending anything to the cloud.
That means faster processing, no subscription fees, and your security footage stays private.
The plug-and-play hub works with most existing Reolink cameras (except 4G models), home hubs, and NVRs, bringing AI capabilities to older, non-AI devices.
The benefit of this is letting you set alerts using natural language prompts. You can tell the AI hub to watch for things like "a man climbing a fence" or "trash bin in backyard is full," and it'll generate the AI logic to detect and notify you.
There's also Event Description, which translates raw footage into understandable insights, identifying people, objects, actions, and contexts. It assigns security levels from L1 (normal activity) to L4 (high concern), helping you focus on genuine threats rather than the neighbour's cat.

The flagship camera: OMVI X16 PoE
Reolink also unveiled its new OMVI Series of triple-lens cameras, led by the 24MP OMVI X16 PoE.
The X16 combines a 16MP dual-lens panoramic camera with 180-degree ultra-wide view and an 8MP pan-tilt-zoom lens with 16Γ optical zoom. The triple-motor structure supports motorised tilt up to 22 degrees for the upper lenses and 360-degree endless horizontal panning with 140-degree vertical rotation for the PTZ unit.
When the panoramic camera detects motion, the PTZ lens automatically locks onto the subject and continues tracking with a zoomed-in close-up, even beyond the panoramic field of view. You can view both perspectives simultaneously in the Reolink app or PC client, giving you context and detail at the same time.
You can also tap any point in the panoramic view to instantly direct the PTZ lens for more details, set custom auto-patrol schedules, or perform one-tap scans for proactive threat detection. The series also includes 18MP OMVI 3i models in WiFi and PoE variants.
Solar power and battery efficiency
Reolink's new Solar Floodlight Cam features an integrated 3W solar panel, 1000-lumen floodlight, and 4MP camera with 150-degree wide-angle view. It's completely wire-free and can run all day with just one hour of sunlight, or last up to three months on a full charge without any sunlight at all.
The company has also partnered with Qualcomm to launch a new lineup of battery-powered cameras and doorbells using the Micro-Power Wi-Fi QCC730 chip. Reolink claims up to 96 per cent longer battery performance than industry standard.
Australian availability
Reolink hasn't announced Australian pricing or availability yet, but it's safe to assume both the AI box and the new lineup of home security cameras will be coming to Australia.
