YouTube in the social media ban... Galaxy Z Fold7 reviewed... Dancing floor cleaners... It's been a big week in tech.

Without a doubt, the biggest story this week was the Labor government's decision to include YouTube in its social media ban. I'd still prefer the government to do its part to address the actual issue of social media companies algorithmically directing their users towards harmful content, but I never understood YouTube's exception.

I discuss this story a lot more in the paid section below, so if you haven't subscribed yet, now is as good a time as any to unlock all of BTTR's subscriber content.

I'm curious to understand how you are feeling about the upcoming social media ban. Do you agree with it? Or do you feel it's the wrong strategy? Or something different entirely? Let me know in the comments below!

In other news, I spent the past few weeks reviewing the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 and let me tell you, it is a remarkable piece of hardware. Not perfect though, so read the review if you're thinking about picking one up.

Until next week

This week's new tech news

BTTR is independent, but we may earn money when you purchase through links on our site.
  • At a fancy event in Sydney this week (complete with ballerinas), Tineco launched its latest range of floor care cleaners, the S9 Artist Pro and S9 Artist Steam. There's been a major design refresh over the likes of the S5 Pro and S6 FlashDry models, with the water tank moving to the base and battery life getting a major boost to 75 minutes. Both models have Tineco's FlashDry self-cleaning and can lay flat to clean under furniture (yes!), with a a 12.85 cm profile. [Tineco]
    • The S9 Artist Pro costs $1,299 RRP and has a dual-sided cleaning head that lets you get right up close on either side as you vacuum and mop.
    • The S9 Artist Steam model, meanwhile, adds steam to the mix, with a new boiler technology that ensures the steam hits floors at a minimum of 99ºC. This helps remove stains and grease more easily, while killing bacteria on your floor. It also boasts a triple-edge cleaning head, which can clean right up close at the front of the power head as well as the sides. It's priced at $1,499 RRP.
  • Samsung has launched its Premiere 5 interactive projector in Australia. This looks like a really cool piece of tech – it's an ultra-short throw projector that can show a screen anywhere from 40-100 inches from a distance of just 12 cm. But it also comes with a dedicated stand that lets you project a 20-inch screen on a table or the floor that's interactive, so you can engage with it just like it's a touchscreen. It comes with all the standard Samsung software and support, like SmartThings, Gaming Hub and AirPlay 2 support, and has its own 10W 2-channel speaker system. Sounds awesome, right? [Samsung]
  • Speaking of Samsung, the Galaxy Z Flip7, Galaxy Z Fold7 and Watch8 Series are in stores now. I can't speak for the Flip or the Watch, but the Fold7 is a great device...
  • DJI has taken a swing at the 360 camera market with its new Osmo 360 camera. With front and back lenses, the Osmo 360 can record 8K/30fps 360º panoramic video, with 13.5 stops of dynamic range and a f/1.9 aperture. The Osmo Invisible selfie stick vanishes from 360º video without any editing required too, making it ideal for action videos. But you can also use it as a standard single lens action cam, with 5K/60fps video quality. RRP is $759 for the standard combo, or $989 for the Adventure combo. [DJI]
  • Sony has given us a lot more details about its upcoming PlayStation arcade controller. Now called the FlexStrike, it has a rechargeable battery and mechanical switch buttons, but you will need to use a PS Link adapter to connect two to your PS5 at the same time. It will support a wired connection, and you can keep your regular DualSense controller connected while you play. Plus, it just looks cool. [PlayStation]
  • I love my bread maker, but it's so bloody big that I rarely pull it out to use it. Panasonic's new SD-PN100 is designed to bake smaller loaves of about 400 grams, so it's a more compact unit and your bread isn't likely to go stale. It has a 13-hour timer delay and 18 automatic bread programs. RRP is $269, and you can buy it now. [Panasonic]
  • Dyson's new Airwrap Co-anda 2x multi-styler and hair dryer is available to buy now. Like the Supersonic Nural, it uses RFID attachments to automatically adjust to your styling needs, while making the device smaller and lighter so it's easier to use. It's available now in Ceramic Pink or Jasper Plum. [Dyson]
  • Razer has just dropped the BlackShark V3 Pro headset, which brings ANC to the BlackShark range for the first time. Designed for those that take their gaming very seriously, the headset has Razer's HyperSpeed Wireless Gen-2 technology, which reduces latency to just 10 milliseconds. There are versions for PC and Xbox available now, and PlayStation coming soon, with RRPs at $449.95. [Razer]
