Microsoft has just launched a couple of new CoPilot+ Surface devices
The new Surface Pro 12-inch and Surface Laptop 13-inch launch May 20 and promise better battery in a smaller body for a lower price.

It's been about a year since Microsoft launched its CoPilot+ platform powered by Snapdragon X processors, so it's right on time for a product refresh.
Microsoft has launched two new models this week, including a 12-inch Surface Pro 2-in-1 device, as well as an updated 13-inch Surface Laptop.
The two new 2025 models use the new Snapdragon X Plus chipsets, which offers big improvements to both battery life and NPU performance. Naturally, Microsoft's announcement is full of AI features that few people want and fewer still actually use, including its pushed back Recall feature.
But, my opinions on big tech's relentless shovelling of unwanted AI into its products won't change anything, so here's what you're looking at.
The new Surface Laptop 13

Starting with the new 13-inch Surface Laptop, which is the thinnest Surface Laptop to date. It features an anodised aluminium chassis and comes in three colour options: Ocean, Violet and Platinum.
Microsoft claims the new Surface Laptop is 50% faster than Surface Laptop 5 and can "outpace" the MacBook Air M3 (using the Cinebench 24 Multi-Thread benchmark). Of course, I'm writing this news piece on the M4 MacBook Air, which launched a couple of months ago, so I'm not convinced this victory is as big as they think it is.
The new Surface Laptop delivers up to 23 hours of video playback and up to 16 hours of active web browsing, which is an impressive battery life stat.
It has a 13-inch full HD touchscreen framed by ultra-thin bezels, and built-in AI-enhanced camera with Auto Video HDR and AI noise reduction.
The New Surface Pro, 12-inch

While I do feel the Surface Laptop is a bit "meh" in terms of design and differentiation, Microsoft's Surface Pro lineup has always been different enough to keep me interested.
With the new 12-inch model, the Surface Slim Pen magnetically attaches to the back of the tablet for charging and secure storage.
The Surface Pro 12-inch Keyboard has also had an update, with a smooth-matte palm rest, a full-size backlit keyset and customisable precision touchpad with adaptive touch mode.
The Surface Pro 12 is powered by the Snapdragon X Plus processor, delivering up to 16 hours of battery life and weighing just 686 grams without the keyboard.
Pricing and availability
Both models are due to start shipping from May 20. Pricing looks like this:
- Surface Pro 12: Prices start at $1,499
- Surface Laptop 13-inch: Prices start at $1,699
