Boost Mobile's new $180 prepaid plan packs in 160GB for six months

Boost Mobile has refreshed its prepaid lineup and picked up a couple of awards along the way. The new $180 long-expiry plan is the one to watch.

I've spent a lot of time over the years looking at the value of mobile phone plans, and one truth remains indisputable: pairing a SIM-only prepaid (or postpaid) plan with an outright phone purchase is always going to be cheaper overall than getting a phone on a plan.

The other thing that I've noted is that long-expiry prepaid plans tend to offer the best value on the market.

Boost has just launched a $180 prepaid plan with a six month expiry and 160 GB data included.

Running on the Full Telstra Prepaid Mobile Network, the plan includes unlimited standard national calls and texts, plus international calls and texts thrown in.

The 160GB data applies to new activations made before 10 August 2026, after which it drops to 100GB per recharge.

Break it down monthly and that works out to roughly $30 for 26GB, though the set-and-forget nature of the six-month expiry is the real appeal.

The new plan is part of a broader refresh of Boost's lineup.

All 7-day and 28-day plans are getting additional data on the first three recharges, the $365 12-month plan now includes international calls, and roaming packs from $20 are getting increased data inclusions.

The only caveat is that the $13 and $26 plans are getting a small price increase, though both come with added data to match.

The launch coincides with some industry recognition for Boost. The brand has been named WeMoney's 2026 "Prepaid Provider of the Year" and "Best for Flexibility" for the second year running.

New WeMoney data puts some numbers around the wider issue: 50% of Australians feel they're overpaying for mobile, 82% are actively looking to cut their bills, and 72% say they're considering switching providers within the next 12 months. Despite all that intent, 46% have stuck with the same telco for over three years.

"Australians are being forced to make tough choices right now, but staying connected shouldn't be one of them," Boost Mobile CEO Bobby Geldens said. "With Boost, you can switch in minutes, keep your number, and instantly start saving with access to the full Telstra Prepaid Mobile Network."

Switching is more straightforward than it used to be since Boost launched eSIM support. Number porting and eSIM mean you can move across without visiting a store or waiting on hold. If you haven't checked the market recently, it's worth a look. My analysis of Aussie SIM plans is a good place to start.
