Dyson's Supersonic r pro-grade pipe hair dryer is now out Down Under

Th SuperSonic r was originally designed for professional salons, but Aussies can now bring it home for $799

I shaved my head over the weekend, so the irony of me writing about a hair dryer is not lost on me.

When Dyson first announced the Supersonic r hair dryer in early 2024, it was a product designed exclusively for professional salons. But a consumer version has just arrived on Australian shores.

The Supersonic r is notable for the fact it looks like a curved pipe. Honestly, I wouldn't be shocked to see a piranha plant suddenly pop out of one end.

But that design gives it some big advantages over previous Supersonic hair dryer models. It's 30% smaller and 20% lighter than the original Supersonic, making it Dyson's fastest, lightest, and most powerful hair dryer to date.

It doesn't replace the core Supersonic hair dryer model, and Dyson also continues to offer the Nural scalp care model as well.

The Supersonic r's Hyperdymium motor spins at up to 110,000 rpm to dry hair faster, with a streamlined flow heater designed to evenly heat the air as it blows.

The SuperSonic r uses RFID attachments, which automatically adjust the motor and heater to ensure the best airflow and temperature combo for the attachment's purpose.

The r uses negative ion technology to "reduce static and flyaways", which apparently gives a sleek, polished look, without doing heat damage to your hair's natural shine.

"The Dyson Supersonic r™ gives my clients, and now everyone at home, the power to achieve the same high-quality finish we create in the salon. It's light, precise, and truly shows how easy it is to get a salon-quality look at home."

Pricing and availability

The Dyson Supersonic r is available in Jasper Plum and Ceramic Pink. The Jasper Plum model is exclusively available from Dyson online, but the Ceramic Pink is now available at Dyson's online store, Dyson Demo stores, and select retailers for $799.

The professional model is still available for Salon's with the main difference being a longer cable.

You won't be seeing a review of this here at BTTR though. I just don't have the hair to test this one properly.
