After LEGO launched its Smart Play Star Wars sets earlier this year, I was wondering what franchise would be next to get the interactive brick treatment.

The answer is Pokémon.

Overnight, LEGO announced 12 new Pokémon LEGO Smart Play sets, bringing lights and sounds to immerse you in the Pokémon world. And because it's Pokémon, it's all about training, nurturing and battling the different sets.

Like the Star Wars sets, the magic comes from the LEGO SMART Brick, a component packed with more than 20 patented technologies that responds to touch, motion and more, all without needing a screen.

For the new Pokémon sets, you can feed your LEGO Pikachu a brick-built sandwich or tickle your LEGO Charizard, and it'll react. The more you interact with your Pokémon, the stronger the bond you build before heading into battle.

Julia Goldin, Chief Marketing and Product Officer at the LEGO Group, said: "For the first time ever, LEGO Pokémon creatures respond to children's actions: meaning fans can build, train and interact with their LEGO Pokémon creatures through hands-on, imaginative play that encourages creativity, confidence and storytelling."

The range splits into two types. All-in-One sets include the SMART Brick, charger and SMART Tags everything you need out of the box.

Compatible sets include SMART Tags but require a SMART Brick from an All-in-One set to unlock the interactive features.

There are two All-in-One sets: the Training House with Pikachu (72164, ages 6+) at $129.99, and the Charizard vs. Jolteon Ultimate Battle (72167, ages 8+) at $199.99.

The remaining ten sets are Compatible, ranging from the bite-sized Jigglypuff Concert (72159, 88 pieces) at $24.99 all the way up to the Cubone and Gengar's Spooky Showdown (72166, 782 pieces) at $159.99.

Fan-favourite Pokémon covered across the full range include Pikachu, Charizard, Squirtle, Bulbasaur, Charmander, Gengar, Eevee, Mewtwo, Jigglypuff, Mew and more.

To coincide with the physical launch, select LEGO Stores will become PokéStops and Gyms from August through September 2026.

Australian fans who visit participating stores can unlock in-game Pokémon GO rewards including a LEGO SMART Tag, digital backgrounds, stickers and branded apparel (while stocks last, of course).
