I'm sitting here writing this, constantly glancing over at the new Galaxy Z Fold8. I've only had it for a few hours, really, so I haven't had enough time to form a proper opinion on it.

But first impressions matter with this type of thing. And my first impressions say that the Fold8 is interesting. It's not just another device cut from the same cloth. It's different, with its passport-style design, and in this industry, difference can be exciting.

But just because it's different doesn't mean it's good. I think it will be good, but as I said, I haven't had enough time to cement that opinion. The wider body is a bit awkward to hold one-handed. But open it up, and the new aspect ratio works in both portrait and landscape modes. Watching a YouTube video and scrolling Instagram hits different depending on how you hold the phone.

But there are challenges, too. One of the first things I did today was plug it in to the BackBone Pro to see how it handled games. But the USB-C placement at the bottom of the phone meant it only fits in portrait mode. Fortnite wouldn't even rotate the screen to let me play properly.

The next couple of weeks are going to be filled with these discoveries. I can't wait.

Until next week
