It's been 10 years since Insta360 launched its Nano 360-degree camera. In that time, the company has grown massively, all building towards the launch of the new X6 camera.
Delivering native in-camera Dolby Vision, a 1-inch equivalent sensor and easy editing of its 360-degree footage, the X6 is designed for all levels of action footage recording.
To deliver its boost to image quality, the X6 uses dual custom Sony 1/1.1" square sensors, co-developed exclusively for Insta360, which boost sensor area by 33% and let in four times more light per frame than before.
Behind them sits a new Triple AI Chip System, pairing two dedicated imaging chips for cleaner night shots with a Qualcomm 8-core 3.3GHz chip for the processing grunt.
A new low-light mode and AdaptiveTone 2.0 (which meters and exposes each lens separately) round out the low-light improvements.
It's also the first 360 camera with native in-camera Dolby Vision and 10-bit colour, meaning footage should look punchier straight off the camera without grading.
Beyond stills and video quality, the X6 packs three shooting modes into one body: full 360 capture at 8K50fps, a 4K30fps "unlimited gimbal" mode with smart subject tracking, and a traditional single-lens action cam mode up to 5K60fps.
On the editing front, Insta360 built its own AI model, called PanoMind, trained on more than 10,000 hours of 360 footage to help with the editing process.
It powers AI Director, which edits a highlight reel automatically while the camera charges, plus an upgraded Auto Edit 2.0, and Moments Pro, which uses Google Gemini to build stylised clips from a few keywords.
"X6 is the camera we always wanted to build. It captures everything around you, in any light, and hands you a finished edit before you even reach for your phone," said JK Liu, founder of Insta360.
On the hardware side, the new 2600 mAh battery runs 140 minutes of 8K30fps recording (51% longer than the X5) and fast charges to 80% in 24 minutes.
The camera is waterproof to 20m on its own, or 60m with the optional Invisible Dive Case Pro, and carries 47GB of usable built-in storage so you can shoot without an SD card.

Pricing and availability
The new Insta360 X6 has an RRP of $1049.99 for the Standard Bundle, while the Essentials Bundle will cost $1159.99. It's available now via the Insta360 Official Store, Amazon.com.au and select retailers.
As a launch bonus, buyers who purchase and activate the X6 before September 30, 2026 get a year of Insta360+ Premium cloud storage (500GB) plus three months of Moments Pro at no extra cost.
