After testing out a bunch of home security cameras over the past few years, I feel like there's generally a barrier between battery/solar powered products and high quality floodlight security cameras. Many floodlight models need to be hardwired into your home, which adds to the cost significantly.
Reolink's latest model, the Solar Floodlight Cam, manages to give that Floodlight performance with a camera that is powered by the sun.
The Solar Floodlight Cam runs on Reolink's SolarEase Enhanced Solar Technology, which achieves up to 26% charging efficiency, which is nearly 20% better than the previous generation of Reolink solar panels, like what's found on the Reolink Altas 2K.
In practice, one hour of sunlight is enough to power the camera for a full day, and a complete charge can hold for up to three months without any solar input at all.
The 1000-lumen output is comparable to a hardwired floodlight, and the on-device AI makes it smarter than a dumb motion sensor.
The camera distinguishes between people, vehicles and animals, then adjusts brightness accordingly. It ramps up to deter an intruder and dims for a neighbour's dog wandering through at night.
Video is captured at 2K (4MP) with a wide 150° field of view, covering driveways, doorways and backyards without blind spots. A 110dB siren is built in for situations that need a more active response.
The Reolink App handles lighting levels, instant alerts and two-way audio. The camera also integrates with Reolink's Home Hub and NVR systems, so it can slot into a larger home security setup if needed.
Nick Nigro, Vice President Australasia at Reolink, said: "The Solar Floodlight Cam sets a new standard in the outdoor security space, delivering the powerful brightness of a floodlight without needing to be hardwired. It is a user-focused solution developed to make home security smarter, simpler and more reliable."
Local storage is supported via microSD up to 512GB, and there are no subscription fees involved.
