Belkin Stage Creator Kit review: Solid value for beginner creators

I thought long and hard about combining my review of the Belkin Stage Creator Kit with the Stage Camera Grip that launched at the same time.

But in the end, these are different products that fill different roles, so I decided to keep them separate, despite the fact they work quite well together.

While the Camera Grip is a clear single product, the Creator Kit is a combination of two products essential for an up-and-coming creator.

Firstly, you get a lightweight tripod. As well as the standard screw mount, it also comes with a MagSafe attachment that lets you magnetically connect your compatible iPhone or Qi2 Android device easily.

But on top of the tripod, the Creator Kit also comes with a dual wireless microphone pack. The self-contained case houses both the receiver and the two transmitters, and magnetic clips to easily attach the transmitters to clothing.

While the microphones may not have the same clarity as a more premium microphone product, at $199.95 RRP for the entire kit, Belkin’s offering here is exceptional value.

What makes the Belkin Stage Creator Kit stand out?

Belkin is targeting creators on a budget with the Stage Creator Kit. The key selling point here is convenience and cost.

You could go out and buy a tripod by itself. A quick browse over at Amazon shows that for a full-sized adjustable tripod, you’re looking at about a $50 cost depending on what you choose. You’d probably have to buy a magnetic phone mount to attach to that tripod, though.

But the Creator Kit combines the tripod and magnetic phone mount with a wireless microphone kit. You get two transmitters and a receiver, with a charging case offering up to 36 hours of battery life, and a wireless range of up to 100 metres.

When packaged together, the Stage Creator Kit is a simple choice. You get everything you need to be able to use your phone as a camera for your content creation. It’s simple to use and affordable.

Design and build quality

Belkin’s design team typically doesn’t disappoint, and this mostly isn’t the exception that proves the rule.

The tripod is both simple and functional in its design. It offers a functional height range of 44 cm to 1.7 metres, which is possible by the four clips on each of the tripod’s three legs.

The tripod is also super lightweight, coming in at around 640 grams. I have an old Manfrotto tripod and while it feels more robust, designed for DSLRs, at 1,346 grams it’s more than double the weight of the Belkin. That weight is important when you’re carrying this around.

You get pan, tilt and swivelling controls on the tripod head, though given this is an entry-level tripod, it’s not quite as smooth as a more expensive tripod.

There are also bubble levels in the tripod head, which can help you ensure every shot is level before you begin shooting. They can be a bit awkward to read, but they aren’t impossible.

If you’re shooting with your phone, the magnetic phone mount is easy to attach, though I found it does come loose easily. But the magnetic attachment to an iPhone 17 Pro in a MagSafe case is definitely secure enough.

If you don’t want to use your phone, the screw mount means you can easily attach other types of cameras. Or you can use it to connect to the Stage Camera Grip for a more robust shooting setup that charges your phone as you record.

The microphone case is pretty compact, and keeps everything together conveniently. Open it up, and there’s a mic on either side, with the receiver in the middle, which is notably smaller than the DJI Mic 2’s receiver.

For the microphones, the receivers are small and discreet. Each one is roughly the size of 4-5 10 cent pieces stacked together.

There are two different ways to attach the mic. There’s a magnetic clip, which is solid and great for pinning through a shirt or onto a jacket. Or there’s a rigid clip, which magnetically attaches to the magnetic clip and lets you clip the mic onto your clothes.

Probably the most disappointing aspect of the whole bundle is those rigid clips. Instead of having a space inside the case to be stored, they gently attach magnetically to the outside of the case.

That means they are extremely losable. I get that making room on the inside of the case would have added volume to the entire package, but the solution on offer just doesn’t work.

Performance

The tripod is perfect for indoor shots. It’s stable and adjustable, giving you a pretty wide range of possible shots.

Its lightweight design, however, means that it’s best suited to shooting with a phone, or a lightweight camera like a GoPro.

The tripod is rated for weights up to 2 kg, and it’s fine if you are shooting indoors. But take a heavy camera attached to the tripod outside in windy conditions, and it might not stay as stable as you need.

If you need fluid panning and tilting shots, you also probably need to spring for a pricier tripod. For still shots, though, this is more than adequate.

On paper, the microphones are impressive. You get 24-bit/48KHz audio, with built-in noise cancellation, and up to 6 hours of recording time per mic. Belkin also claims a range of up to 100 metres.

It’s a 100% plug and play solution. There’s no app required, you just plug in the transmitter and everything works perfectly. You will need a device with a USB-C connection, though, as the receiver only offers that connection. There’s no Lightning or older Micro-USB support on offer.

In use, the reality is that audio performance is a little muddy, and clipping is a real issue if you speak loudly or move the mic around. Clipping is where the audio signal exceeds what the mic can handle, producing a harsh, distorted crackle.

It’s probably not too different to an iPhone’s internal microphone, though you do get the benefit of having two microphones, to use wirelessly.

Ultimately, it means that the Belkin is not going to compete with more premium options like the DJI Mic 2, but then again, that mic costs more on its own than this entire kit.

Verdict

Belkin knows exactly who this is for, and it has priced the Stage Creator Kit accordingly. At $199.95, you are not getting the sharpest audio or the steadiest tripod on the market. But you are getting everything you need to start making content, in one box, without having to research and piece together a setup from scratch.

The mic kit will not compete with a premium microphone solution like what you get from DJI or Rode on pure audio quality, but those products typically cost more on its own than this entire bundle. The tripod is light, and the pan controls are basic, but it does the job for the phone-first creator it is designed for.

If you are already producing videos professionally, this is not the kit for you. But if you are just getting started and want a capable, affordable foundation to build from, the Stage Creator Kit is an easy recommendation.

• You shoot primarily on an iPhone or a Qi2 Android device and want a simple, magnetic phone mount on a proper tripod
• You need wireless microphones that just work without an app, a fiddly setup, or a complicated workflow

Skip the Belkin Stage Creator Kit if…

• Audio quality is non-negotiable: The mics are functional but muddy, and prone to clipping compared to dedicated options like the DJI Mic 2
• You plan to shoot outdoors with a heavier camera in anything but calm conditions
• You already own a decent tripod and just need a microphone upgrade
