Why trust us? | How we test
Just when you thought they couldn't put AI into everything, HP has come along with AI Print, which lets compatible HP printers strip out unwanted junk when you print from the web. Your nanna is going to love this.
HP reckons more than half of all home and office print jobs these days start with something pulled from the web, whether that's a recipe, a travel itinerary, an online article or a how-to guide.
The problem is that what looks fine on your screen doesn't always translate to paper. You end up with ads printed across the page, images that are the wrong size, awkward spacing, or an extra blank page you didn't ask for, and then you're reprinting the whole thing anyway.
The core element in HP Print AI is a feature called Precise Print, which automatically cleans up web pages before they hit the paper tray. It strips out ads, fixes poor image sizing and sorts out awkward spacing, so what comes out the other end is closer to what you actually wanted the first time.
There's also a support element to the launch. HP Print AI uses natural language processing and contextual awareness to walk new users through setup and remember their preferences and past questions, so it can offer more tailored help down the track rather than generic troubleshooting.
"Printing has always been part of how people work, learn and create but the way we find and use information has changed," said Paul Gracey, Vice President and Head of Greater Asia Print Category, HP Inc. "HP Print AI helps solve those everyday frustrations now, while giving customers a printer that is ready for what comes next."
On the commercial side, HP has also expanded availability of HP Scan AI Enhanced, a cloud-based tool that automatically recognises document types and extracts key data for business workflows.
HP points to a retail group in Italy that cut labour costs by 80 per cent in its delivery and inventory operations after rolling it out, which gives some sense of the scale businesses are chasing with this kind of automation.
