When you think of home appliance brands in Australia, chances are that Midea doesn't come to mind, despite being a Fortune 500 company with over 190,000 employees worldwide and US$57.5 billion in revenue in 2024.
That's likely to change soon, though, with the company focused on expanding its footprint into the Australian market.
Founded in China in 1968, Midea has grown into one of the largest home appliance manufacturers in the world, operating across more than 200 countries and regions.
It holds over 90,000 patents, runs 38 R&D and innovation centres globally, and serves an estimated 640 million consumers.
It's also the world's number one air conditioning brand, which is impressive context for a label that barely registers on Australian shelves.

A range that covers the whole home
Midea's Australian rollout isn't a limited trial. The company is launching across residential air conditioning, refrigeration, dishwashers, laundry appliances, and a broad selection of small kitchen appliances including microwaves, a rice cooker, pressure cooker, benchtop dishwasher, and ice maker.
Christie Yuen, Head of marketing for Midea ANZ told us:
“Globally, Midea is already a market leader across air conditioning, laundry, kitchen and other well-known appliance categories.
We’re all about creating technology that makes everyday living easier, more comfortable and more efficient. Products designed to save time and make life easier at home.
We are still in the process of introducing ourselves and our range to Australian consumers, and showing them why millions of households around the world trust our products every day.
We’ve had a very busy few months. As a supporter of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup Australia 2026, and across various other showcase events held recently, we’ve been able to introduce our brand and our mission to “bring great innovations to life”. The feedback has been overwhelming and extremely positive and we will continue to build on this locally with a goal to become a trusted household name in Australia.”
Given its number 1 global brand positioning, air conditioning is an important place to start for the brand's Australian launch.
The flagship air conditioning option is the Venus Split System ($1,279), which carries a 6.5-star energy rating and can operate on as little as 2.2kWh per night using Midea's SmartSavE technology.
It connects to the MSmartHome app for Wi-Fi control, features ThermoStatic technology that keeps temperatures within ±0.5°C, and uses dual filtration to help remove dust and allergens from the air.

Fridges, dishwashers, and laundry
The refrigeration range includes three models starting from $649 for a 338L top-mount fridge, up to a 474L quad-door model at $1,269.
The middle option, a 413L top-mount in dark stainless ($1,099), is the most feature-rich, combining a quiet Inverter Quattro compressor with Active C-Fresh odour and bacteria reduction and a dedicated Cooling Box zone that sits between 0 and 10°C.
There are four dishwashers in the lineup. The pick of the range is the 15-place freestanding model ($999), which uses Ion Dishfresh technology to eliminate 99.9% of viruses from dishes, opens its door automatically at the end of the cycle for energy-efficient drying, and operates at a quiet 44dB.
It's also earned the Level 3 Golden Hygiene certification, which is the highest tested standard for household dishwashers.
On the laundry side, Midea offers front-load and top-load washing machines across 8, 9, and 10kg capacities, priced from $639 to $949.
The 9KG MF200 front loader ($729) is the value highlight, with Steam Care for bacteria removal, a Turbo Wash function that cuts wash time by up to 40%, and a fast 15-minute Quick Wash cycle.
Three heat pump dryers round out the laundry range, starting from $749.

Small appliances worth a look
The benchtop dishwasher ($399) stands out as one of the more practical options in the range for renters or apartment dwellers.
It requires no plumbing, runs from an insulated water tank, and offers six wash programs including a high-temperature steam cycle and a 35°C fruit wash designed to help remove pesticide residue.
The 10-cup induction rice cooker ($169) uses Omni-Dimensional IH technology that heats from both the top and bottom simultaneously for evenly cooked rice, and includes a Binchotan-coated inner pot that's non-stick and easy to clean.
For the microwave buyers, Midea has three inverter models at 20L, 34L, and 45L, with the two larger options both priced at $239 and featuring a smart humidity sensor that automatically adjusts cooking time to prevent food from drying out.
