When I was first starting out writing about technology, Navman was one of the leading pioneers of satnav products. But these days, the company is now focused on dash cams.

This week the company has announced its latest lineup of dash cam models. If you drive for work, or you just want to have that extra layer of security for insurance purposes, there are plenty of options to choose from.

The 2026 MiVue range spans four models, from the entry-level MiVue 280 Safety at $189 through to the flagship MiVue Smart True 4K Surround at $529, and every model ships with a handful of features new to Australia.

The big new feature is Integrated Smart Parking Mode, which keeps the camera rolling after you've switched off the engine.

Previously, Navman sold a separate Smartbox module to make this work. Now it's built directly into the camera body, without any increase in size.

Once wired in using the included 12V hardwiring kit, the camera monitors your parked car for knocks, scrapes and hit-and-runs, and automatically cuts out if your battery voltage drops too low.

New research commissioned by Navman found that nearly half (47%) of Australian drivers have experienced vehicle damage while away from their car, and just 13% of those incidents resulted in anyone leaving a note behind. Wendy Hammond, General Manager at Navman, said the 2026 range was designed with exactly that scenario in mind. "Our 2026 MiVue range goes beyond standard recording, giving Australians reliable coverage on the road and while parked," she said.

Another Australia-first is Extended Recording Mode, which compresses file sizes by around 50% without reducing resolution. In practical terms, the same SD card holds roughly twice as much footage, which matters on long drives where you'd otherwise run out of storage before anything interesting happens.

Smart Safety Camera Alerts also make their Australian debut across the range, and they work differently to standard speed camera warnings. Rather than giving the same alert every time, the system adjusts how early it warns you based on your current speed. Drive faster and you get more notice.

All models also include Average Speed Camera Alerts, which display your current average speed, the remaining distance in the zone, and the posted speed limit in real time. Updates to the speed camera database arrive free monthly via Wi-Fi through the MiVue Pro App.

The top of the range MiVue Smart True 4K Surround uses a three-camera setup to cover the front (True 4K), rear and side impact zones (both True 2.5K), capturing the kinds of incidents a single forward-facing camera will miss entirely, including T-bone collisions and side-swipes.

The MiVue Smart True 4K DC, at $369, adds a rear camera with STARVIS 2 low-light technology and Tailgating Warnings, which alert you when a vehicle is following too closely and record the behaviour as evidence.

All four models record in at least True 2.5K, use supercapacitors rather than standard batteries (a sensible choice for Australian summers), and share footage wirelessly to your phone via the MiVue Pro App.
