Norton's scam Genie just moved in to Claude, and it's watching your inbox

As AI-generated scams get harder to spot, Norton's grabbed a seat inside Claude, letting you paste in dodgy texts, emails and links for an instant gut check.

We know that the rise of AI technologies has led to scammers getting way more sophisticated in how they rip people off. Norton has tried to level the playing field by launching a connection for its Norton Genie security tool in Claude.

The idea is simple. Instead of squinting at a text about a "missed delivery" or an email threatening to suspend your account, you flick it over to Claude with the Norton connector switched on, and Genie tells you whether it's legitimate, risky, or an outright scam.

Norton says Genie also digs into the broader context of a scam attempt, looking at language patterns, urgency cues, impersonation tricks and requests for sensitive info.

There's also URL and domain analysis baked in, so it'll expand shortened links, check where they actually lead, and weigh up the reputation of the destination site before telling you whether to proceed.

Norton's Head of Products and Portfolios, Travis Witteveen, said the integration reflects how people are already using AI assistants day to day.

"People are already asking AI tools whether something feels legitimate, suspicious, or safe to engage with. By bringing Norton Genie into even more AI platforms like Claude and ChatGPT, we're making trusted Cyber Safety intelligence available directly in those moments to help people make more confident decisions in real time," he said.

This isn't Norton's first crack at embedding Genie into an AI assistant. It launched inside ChatGPT earlier this year, and the Claude integration means Norton's scam detection is now sitting inside both of the AI tools most Australians are likely to already have open.

The connector works across every tier of Claude, so you don't need a paid subscription to use it, either.

How to get started

Norton Genie is available now as a free connector inside Claude, across all subscription tiers.

To turn it on, head to the Norton connector listing in Claude's directory and enable it, then simply describe or paste in the suspicious text, email, link or image you want checked.
