While I wasn't looking, TCL launched its full lineup of 2026 TVs in Australia. It's a big lineup, which is hardly a surprise for a World Cup year. Here's what's on offer.
The range centres on TCL's new Super Quantum Dot (SQD) Mini LED technology, which the company positions as a step beyond its existing Mini LED platform.
There are three SQD-Mini LED models: the flagship X11L, the C8L, and the C7L. Rounding out the lineup are the P8LS and P7LS (QD-Mini LED) and the C6L (QLED), giving buyers six options across different price points.
The technology underpinning SQD-Mini LED comes down to three improvements. Precise Dimming refines backlight control through upgraded light-emitting chips and micro-lens technology, which translates to better black levels, reduced blooming around bright objects, and a slimmer physical panel.
Super QLED extends the colour gamut by 33% and boosts colour purity by 17%, which matters most in bright, HDR content.
The Ultra Colour Filter, developed over five years, uses particles smaller than 5 nanometres to filter colour more precisely and reduce impurities on screen.
The jump in dimming zones between the two SQD flagship models is significant. The X11L runs 20,736 zones to the C8L's 4,032, which makes a difference in how precisely the backlight can be controlled around fine detail.
Both models feature audio tuned by Bang & Olufsen, too.
The X11L was first shown at CES 2026, where it picked up the Innovative Display Technology Gold Award from International Data Group. It comes in 75, 85, and 98-inch sizes, with the 98-inch panel capable of hitting 10,000 nits peak brightness.
All six models in the 2026 range ship with Google Gemini AI built in, making TCL the first TV brand globally to launch with Gemini pre-installed. That means voice-powered search, content discovery, and smart home controls out of the box, without needing to set anything up.
TCL Electronics Australia and New Zealand Managing Director Hawk Zhang said the company sees SQD as a genuine leap forward. "With wider colour gamut, precise colour control, more dimming zones, higher brightness and thinner designs, SQD represents a major upgrade in Mini LED technology and the future of television production."
