OPPO's Reno series of smartphones have always offered pretty good value for money. And judging from the specs, the new Reno16 family looks to continue that trend.
Launching on 23 July with a starting price of $999 for the Reno16 and $1,599 for the Reno16 Pro, the new Reno16 family combines camera, battery and robust build quality at a mid-range price.
Both phones lean hard into content creation. The 50MP Ultra-Wide Selfie Camera has a 100 degree field of view, so you can actually fit your mates in the shot without everyone doing the usual group-selfie shuffle.
Round the back, both models get a triple camera system with a telephoto lens offering roughly 3.5x optical zoom. The Reno16 Pro steps things up further with a 200MP main camera, which means you can crop into a photo after the fact and still keep the detail sharp.
OPPO has also built a new Create hub into the Photos app, with tools like AI Remix Collage for combining photos and videos into layered, sticker-covered compositions, and Popout Collage 2.0 for the kind of "subject breaking out of the frame" edits that tend to do well on social.
If you liked what the Reno12 did with AI, or the Reno13 for that matter, this is a much more creator-focused follow-up.
Design-wise, the standout is the Pop White edition's HoloVerse 3D finish, which uses millions of micro-lenses to create a shifting, nebula-like effect on the back of the phone. It looks better in person than in a press shot.
Battery life gets a boost too. The Reno16 Pro packs a 6,000mAh battery with 80W fast charging, while the Reno16 F goes even bigger at 6,500mAh.
Both are also rated IP68, IP69 and IP69K, meaning they can handle submersion, dust and even high-pressure hot water without drama, useful if your content creation involves a beach day or a festival.
Everyday AI gets a nudge too. The Reno16 Series introduces OPPO's new AI Snap Key, a physical button for quick access to AI Mind Space, which saves and organises things you screenshot or highlight.
Paired with the new AI Mind Pilot, it can coordinate different AI models to recommend the best one for a task, or let you compare their answers side by side.
