Samsung's new Odyssey monitors go where no gaming screen has gone before

Samsung's 2026 Odyssey lineup is here, and the top model does something no gaming monitor has done before: 6K resolution at 165Hz.

It makes a lot of sense that Samsung is leveraging its OLED TV tech in the smaller gaming screens. It's 2026 lineup of Odyssey gaming monitors have managed to push its display tech up to a ridiculous 6K resolution.

The company has just launched five new monitors in Australia across its Odyssey gaming and ViewFinity professional lines. Leading the charge is the 32-inch Odyssey G8 (G80HS), which Samsung is calling the world's first 6K gaming monitor.

While most high-end gaming setups are still running 4K, Samsung has pushed this one straight to 6K.

It runs at 165Hz at full 6K resolution, and if you switch into Dual Mode it can hit 330Hz at 3K, which can help if you want pure competitive speed over visual fidelity.

The 27-inch Odyssey G8 (G80HF) takes a similar dual-mode approach but at 5K resolution, running 180Hz at full resolution or up to 360Hz in QHD.

Both G8 models support DisplayPort 2.1, which delivers the raw bandwidth needed to push those resolutions without compression.

AMD FreeSync Premium and NVIDIA G-Sync Compatible support are both on board, and the lineup includes HDR10+ GAMING, which adjusts brightness and contrast in real time rather than applying a static HDR profile.

The Odyssey OLED G8 (G80SH) comes in both 27-inch and 32-inch sizes and uses Samsung's QD-OLED Penta Tandem panel, which is the same five-layer light emission tech found in Samsung's premium TV panels, like the S95F I reviewed last year.

It runs 4K at 240Hz, and Samsung's certified Glare Free coating reduces reflections without dulling the OLED panel's output. USB-C with up to 98W charging means you can power a laptop through the monitor too.

Rounding out the gaming lineup is the 32-inch Odyssey OLED G7 (G73SH), which brings 4K OLED performance at a lower price point. It runs 165Hz at 4K or 330Hz in FHD via Dual Mode, with a 0.03ms response time that keeps things sharp in fast-paced games.

For creative professionals, the 40-inch ViewFinity S8 (S85TH) is the more productivity-focused option. It sports a curved WUHD (5K2K) display at 144Hz, with Thunderbolt 5 connectivity that handles 80Gbps data transfer and up to 140W device charging from a single cable.

Simon Howe, Director of Visual Display at Samsung Australia, said the range is designed to serve the full spectrum of users.

"With the introduction of premium 6K and 5K Odyssey monitors, alongside affordable OLED and UHD models, we're offering Australian gamers and creators unparalleled clarity and responsiveness across both gaming and professional environments," he said.
