Why trust us? | How we test
Just a couple of months after launching its 17 Series smartphone in Australia, Xiaomi is upping its game with the new 17T and 17T Pro models, complete with Leica optics.
Plus, it's coinciding its launch with the EOFY sales window, meaning you can get the impressively specced devices for a fraction of the RRP.
The big news for the 17T Series is Leica 5x optical telephoto on both models, a first for the 17 lineup.
Each phone carries a triple-camera system built around a 50MP Leica main camera, a 50MP 5x telephoto with OIS, and a 12MP ultra-wide, with a 32MP selfie shooter up front.
The telephoto stretches to 10x "optical-grade" zoom, up to 120x AI Ultra Zoom, and drops to 30cm for macro.
Leica Live Moment, which captures motion around the decisive shot, works across all rear focal lengths on both models. The Pro adds 4K 60fps cinematic recording, 8K 30fps, 4K 120fps, and a Stage mode designed for complex concert lighting.
Both phones feature a 1.5K AMOLED display with 3,500-nit peak brightness, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and Corning Gorilla Glass 7i.
Xiaomi Vision Care manages blue light, flicker and motion blur, earning the 17T Series the TÜV Rheinland quadruple eye-care certification.
The Pro runs at up to 144Hz refresh rate; the 17T at 120Hz in a lighter, one-hand-friendly chassis.
The 17T Pro is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9500 (3nm) with a 7,000mAh silicon-carbon battery and 100W wired/50W wireless HyperCharge. The 17T uses the Dimensity 8500-Ultra with a 6,500mAh battery and 67W charging.
Both carry IP68 water resistance and run Xiaomi HyperOS with Xiaomi HyperAI.
EOFY launch bargains
Xiaomi is launching both phones during its EOFY sales, with the deal having three layers.
First, the $200 AUD discount is applied automatically at checkout. Second, every model comes with a bonus gift. Third, a $200 storage upgrade voucher brings the 512GB model to the same price as the 256GB, meaning the 17T Pro 512GB drops to $1,099 and the 17T 512GB to $799.
Stack all three and you're looking at up to $400 in total savings.
"Aussies are incredibly savvy shoppers, so we made sure to time the launch of the 17T Series around EOFY to deliver real value," said Jephix Liu, Director of Go-to-Market at Xiaomi Australia.
Also launching alongside the phones are the Xiaomi Watch S5 46mm (from $269, down to $161.40 during EOFY), Xiaomi Buds 6 ($229, EOFY $137.40), Xiaomi Smart Band 10 Pro ($149, EOFY $89.40), and the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum H50 Pro ($1,599, EOFY $639.60), all available at mi.com/au.
