When it comes to coffee, it's tough to compete with Nespresso for simplicity. You pop in your pod and press a button, and you're done.

But the traditional Nespresso system also has limitations, which the company is hoping to solve with its latest product, the Vertuo Up.

The Vertuo range already addressed one of the biggest criticisms of the original Nespresso system: variety.

Where the classic range tops out at two cup sizes, Vertuo machines use Centrifusion technology to spin and infuse each capsule, unlocking seven different cup sizes from a tight ristretto all the way up to a carafe.

The Vertuo Up supports more than 30 coffee blends across all of those sizes, thanks to the addition is the Coffee Creations button.

It delivers a more concentrated extraction from your capsule, which is particularly useful if you're making milk-based drinks or iced coffees at home.

There's also Wi-Fi connectivity and support for the Nespresso Smart App, letting you adjust temperature and cup length, browse recipes, and manage maintenance reminders from your phone.

And if you're in a rush, the three-second heat-up time means you're not standing around waiting.

Design-wise, the machine has a new lever mechanism that Nespresso says is inspired by its premium machines, and the 1.4-litre water tank rotates to suit different bench configurations. The capsule container holds up to 18 espresso capsules or 13 mugs before you need to empty it.

It comes in four colours: Ink Black, Ocean Blue, Pearl White, and Graphite.

Nespresso-commissioned research by McCrindle found that 58% of Australian coffee drinkers are now making coffee at home to save money. At $349, the Vertuo Up is pitched squarely at that shift.

The machine also serves as the centrepiece of Nespresso's new global campaign, which introduces Dua Lipa as brand ambassador alongside longtime face George Clooney.

At $349, it also promises to be a competitive option for the best cheap machine in our list of the best coffee machines in Australia.
