The Motorola razr fold is here, and it brings Bose speakers and a very big battery

Motorola's first book-style foldable, the razr fold, has landed in Australia alongside a beefed-up razr 70 ultra and a Swarovski-studded Brilliant Collection.

It looks like 2026 could be the year of the foldable for Australian phone fans. Following Honor's announcement that the Magic V6 is available in Australia, Motorola has confirmed local availability for the razr fold.

It's also shown off the latest version of its iconic razr family, the razr 70 Ultra.

Until now, Motorola's foldable story has been all about the flip phone. The razr fold opens book-style into an 8.1 inch 2K display for multitasking, with a 6.6-inch external screen handling the day-to-day stuff without needing to unfold it.

Motorola's calling it the brightest interior display of any foldable, and it's also the only one with Sound by Bose built in.

Motorola has also brought the camera excellence from the Signature smartphone to the fold.

A 50MP Sony sensor picked up a DXOMARK Gold Label for imaging, backed by a 50MP periscope telephoto with up to 100x zoom and a 50MP ultrawide with macro focus.

It shoots Dolby Vision video up to 8K, which is an unusual spec for a foldable at any price.

Battery life looks strong on paper too. The 6000 mAh cell is one of the largest fitted to any foldable, and 80W TurboPower charging is rated for more than 43 hours of use per charge.

There's also support for the moto pen ultra, sold separately, for sketching and note-taking on the big screen, and a Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chip running the show with Gemini, moto ai and Perplexity all available out of the box.

If a book-style foldable feels like more phone than you need, the razr 70 ultra picks up where last year's razr 50 ultra left off.

It runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, which Motorola says makes it the most powerful razr yet, and its triple 50MP camera system is the first on a flip phone to use a LOFIC sensor, said to capture up to 6x more dynamic range in tricky lighting.

A 5000mAh silicon carbon battery and 68W charging get a claimed 36 hours of use, with a full day's charge in around eight minutes.

Rounding out the announcement is the latest in Motorola's Brilliant Collection, with the motorola signature and moto buds 2 plus both arriving in a PANTONE Violet Indigo colourway finished with Swarovski crystals.

"Beyond being our first book-style foldable smartphone, it's a device that adapts to how people live, work and create, setting a new standard for what a foldable can do," said Praveena Raman, Head of Motorola ANZ.

Both phones carry an IP rating for water and dust resistance rather than full waterproofing. The razr fold's IP49 rating means it can handle both submersion in fresh water and high-pressure, high-temperature water jets, while the razr 70 ultra's IP48 rating covers submersion but not pressurised jets. Neither is designed to be used underwater.
