Part of me understands the appeal of AI note taking devices like the Plaud NotePin S or Note Pro, which have just launched in Australia. Being able to quickly recall something that happened during the day with accuracy could be very beneficial at times.

But I also worry that outsourcing my need to remember things is a surefire way to forget everything.

The Plaud Note Pro ($309) and Plaud NotePin S ($299) are now available locally, bringing a combined hardware-and-software approach to AI note taking.

The pitch is straightforward: carry or wear the device, let it record your conversations, and let the AI organise and summarise what was said.

The Note Pro is the more professional of the two. It's the size and shape of a credit card, and its Smart Dual Mode Recording automatically switches between phone calls and in-person meetings without any manual input.

Battery life is rated at 50 hours of continuous recording, which should cover even the most meeting-heavy of weeks. There's also a "Press to highlight" feature that lets you flag key moments in real time, giving the AI better context about what actually mattered in a given conversation.

The NotePin S takes a different approach, designed to be worn as a wristband, necklace, pin, or clip for hands-free use. Both devices support Apple Find My (firmware V1.5 required), so losing them in a bag is less of a problem.

On the software side, both connect to Plaud Intelligence, the company's AI platform, which generates summaries, action items, and searchable notes from recordings. An "Ask Plaud" feature lets you query your notes in natural language, with answers traced back to the original audio. The app is available on both iOS and Android.

"What sets Plaud apart is our design to work in all scenarios: in-person, over the phone or on screen. It's how intelligence naturally flows," said Nathan Xu, co-founder and CEO of Plaud. "Capturing conversations in their natural form is the best way to empower people in real life."

Plaud claims more than two million users worldwide since launching in 2023, and the Note Pro picked up both an iF Design Award and a Red Dot Award this year for its product design.
