TP-Link is a company I naturally associate with networking products, with maybe a little bit of home security on the side. So I was taken aback to learn that it has launched an $899 robot vacuum cleaner.
It seems like it's well specced for a robot vacuum at that price tag, too.
The Tapo RV50 Omni is on sale in Australia now, and it's designed to target two of the biggest problems with robot vacuums: pet hair wound around the brush, and the ongoing chore of cleaning the machine itself.
On the hair front, the RV50 Omni uses a tangle free cutting brush that only releases wrapped hair once the robot's back at its dock. That means instead of you pulling matted fur off the roller every week, the robot handles it in the background.
The dock does the heavy lifting on the cleaning front, too. After a mop run, it washes the pads, dries them with 50°C warm air so they don't go mouldy, and empties the dustbin into a 3L bag.
TP-Link says the robot also lifts and detaches its mop pads before it crosses onto carpet, which is the bit that trips up a lot of hybrid vac mops.
For the cleaning, it pairs 12,000 Pa suction across five power levels with dual spinning mop pads that turn at 180RPM and push down with 8N of pressure.
Navigation is handled by 360-degree dToF LiDAR, and the Tapo app lets you set no-go zones, schedule cleans, and map multiple floors.
There's also a Pet Zone mode, so you can flag high traffic spots like a food bowl or litter tray for more frequent, higher-suction attention.
The machine is Matter compatible too, and works with Amazon Alexa and Google Home if you want to fold it into an existing smart home setup.
