Amazon launched its first colour Kindle last year, but unless you're reading comics, or kids books, most novels tend to lack in the colour department.

But a colour version of the Kindle Scribe, with a bundled stylus that let's you write and draw in colour? That's something to get excited about.

Amazon today announced three new Kindle Scribe models heading to Australia: the standard Kindle Scribe, a Kindle Scribe without a front light, and the headliner, the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft. All three are available for pre-order now, with shipping from 10 June 2026.

The whole range has had a design overhaul. All three models come in at just 5.4mm thick and 400g, which is slimmer and lighter than the previous generation.

The 11-inch glare-free display is also larger, and Amazon says writing and page turns are 40% faster.

The Colorsoft is obvious the most exciting model. It uses Amazon's custom Colorsoft display technology, paired with a new rendering engine to bring soft, eye-friendly colour to the writing surface.

You get 10 pen colours and five highlighter colours, plus a new shader tool for anyone who uses their Scribe for sketching or creative planning.

Battery life is measured in weeks, and with no apps, notifications, or social feeds in sight, it stays focused on the task at hand.

All three models also come with a substantial AI upgrade. The new AI-powered notebook can search across your notes, generate summaries, and surface follow-up questions.

There's Google Drive and OneDrive support for importing documents, OneNote integration for exporting notes as text or images, and a new Workspace feature that keeps your documents, notebooks, and books organised in one place.

A new Quick Notes shortcut on the home screen makes it easy to jot something down without hunting for the right notebook first.

Amazon commissioned research finding that 22% of Australians say constant interruptions are affecting their ability to disconnect. The Kindle Scribe has always positioned itself as a distraction-free alternative to a tablet, and this lineup leans hard into that idea.

"Australians are increasingly looking for ways to create moments of uninterrupted focus in a world full of constant notifications and distractions," said Jacqui Corbett, Amazon Devices Country Manager for Australia and New Zealand. "The new Kindle Scribe lineup is designed to support clearer thinking, deeper focus and more intentional productivity."

Every device comes with a premium pen that attaches magnetically and never needs charging. A new accessories range includes plant-based flip covers from $129.95 (in Matcha and Graphite), leather flip covers from $169.95, and leather folio covers from $199.95, all of which fold into a built-in stand for hands-free reading.
