Robot vacuums are utility appliances. You want them to do their jobs without you having to really think about it. If you can avoid touching it at all, that's perfect.
In my experience, Ecovacs is pretty good at this. While I had to manually empty my Deebot N8, the N10 Plus, X1 Plus and X2 Omni have all done a good job of being pretty hands off by design.
Ecovacs is continuing the trend of hands of home cleaning with a trio of new vacuums, which were unveiled at a launch event tonight in Sydney.
Targeting three distinct types of customer at three distinct price points, Ecovacs has really optimised its range for a variety of Aussie customers.
The Ecovacs Deebot X5 Pro Omni
The Ecovacs Deebot X5 Pro Omni is its new flagship model, building on and replacing last year's X2 Omni.
Don't ask me what happened to the X3 and X4. They obviously didn't make it.
With the D-shape design we first saw in the X2, the X5 Pro Omni is the company's new flagship, and it offers flagship level suction.
You get a whopping 12,800 Pa of suction from this machine at full tilt, which is 4,000 Pa over the X2. And let me tell you, that was no slouch in the sucktion department.
There have been a number of internal reconfigurations here, including moving the main sensors to the front of the vacuum from the side. Ecovacs has also introduced its Adaptive edge mopping which sees the right mop pad stretch out to clean right up to the edge of your room.
Naturally there have been significant software updates, including boosts to the navigation and obstacle recognition and avoidance. The on board AI can also recognise stubborn stains and intelligently mop over them repeatedly to ensure the stain is removed.
Like all the vacuums in this new lineup, the X5 Pro Omni has a new tangle-free roller brush design with specially designed teeth that help minimise hair being caught in the roller.
You also get a comprehensive base station with full mop cleaning and auto-empty capabilities.
The Ecovacs Deebot T30S Combo
Building on the T30 that launched earlier this year, the T30S Combo is targeted more at new homeowners, or families looking to consolidate their cleaning appliances.
It boasts a bundled stick vacuum, which sits at the side of the T30's base station. It's intelligently designed to auto empty the stick vacuum's canister into the same bag as the robot vacuum as well.
The T30S Combo comes with a bunch of attachments, most of which can be stored within the base unit itself.
Like the X5 Pro Omni, the robot T30S can mop right to the edge of a room, though from a design perspective it looks more like a traditional robot vacuum with its sensor head and its circular body.
You get plenty of suction, with 11,000 Pa on offer. The vacuum has enough battery to get you through a full house clean as well (depending on your house, obviously).
The mop pads will lift up to 9 mm to avoid rubbing along the carpet (though from experience I think it will probably not clear most carpets completely), and the base station will help keep those mop pads nice and fresh, cleaning them after every use.
The Ecovacs Deebot N20 Pro Plus
Ecovacs' new entry-level model is designed for customers new to robot vacuums and don't want to spend over $1000 on the appliance.
To help with that cost, Ecovacs has introduced its first bag-free, PureCyclone auto empty station. Working like a bag-free stick vacuum but in a base station, the N20 Pro Plus will empty the robot vacuum using cyclonic suction, which you then empty into a dustbin.
The vacuum itself seems like a reasonable step up from the N10 Plus too. You get 8,000 Pa of suction, the ZeroTangle tech that keeps your main brush from ripping apart with long strands of hair, a five hour runtime with the battery and strong mapping and mopping tech.
