It's been a decade at least since I went to Computex in Taipei, but I feel like this year's event was the biggest it has been in a while. I didn't even scratch the surface of the different news announcements that came out of the event... I'll probably have some delayed coverage landing over the next week.
The thing that stood out to me was the launch of a new standard of chipsets. NVIDIA's RTX Spark was probably the most important, with its combination of CPU and GPU and 128GB of shared memory that will let you manage AI models locally.
While it's too soon to see how these chips will fare in the wild given the ever increasing cost of... well, everything... due to AI-related inflation, the premise is solid.
And NVIDIA wasn't the only company with shiny new chipsets. Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon C, designed for entry-level laptops, while Intel showcased the Arc G-Series processors designed for next-gen gaming handhelds.
We're going to be waiting to be able to get our hands on actual products rocking any of these new chipsets, but it means that the next 12 months is shaping up to be an interesting time in the PC space.
But, more importantly than all those incredible processor improvements was the news that LEGO has followed up its Star Wars Smart Brick launch from earlier this year with a series of Pokémon-themed sets that let you train, interact and battle, just like a proper Pokémon. Brilliant!
Until next week
